A grant went to the Nepal health program which provides families with induction cooking supplies and electrical hook up to reduce indoor air pollution from wood smoke. A second grant went to Nepal education where ICO and Rotary partners with local volunteers and schools to develop computer labs for students.
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR TRANFORMATION
Funding went to the Kalinga Apayao Community Development and Youth Education in the northern Philippines. In the remote provinces of Kalinga and Apayao many families do not have the financial means to support their children’s education. IAT provides scholarships, school supplies and summer literacy programs.

Nepal has been hard hit by Covid-19. Through Child Haven’s partnership we have supported the work of Women’s Foundation, Nepal in providing medical assistance and food supplies to severely impacted communities.

Funds went toward education project work in Zambia. VIDEA continues a partnership with Women for Change that supports rural youth in Zambia to have appropriate schooling and post-secondary education as well as finding ways to connect youth in meaningful and inspirational activities and events.

Under Child Haven’s partnership with Women’s Foundation, Nepal, we have been able to support the Open Kitchen project providing healthy hot meals to people in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gift and Bertha have now completed their studies and await transition to employment while Covid impacts play out in Zambia. Gift spent 2020 in final clinical rotations and continues to be active in advocacy and health education such as working with VIDEA in translating Covid-19 education pamphlets. Bertha had her practicum cut short but has graduated. She is working as a VIDEA intern on social justice and decolonization programs plus overseeing and supporting younger interns. We are so proud of these young leaders!

Gift completed year 6 of a 7 year medical degree program and Bertha entered her final year at the University of Lusaka focusing on Special Education.

Through VIDEA’s youth education partnership with Women for Change (WfC) in Zambia, we sponsor the education of Gift and Bertha; two students studying medicine and special education respectively and committed to social justice in their communities.

This was the third year of grants to Child Haven in support of their project work with Women’s Foundation of Nepal. The 5,000 helped with day care and pre-school education of young children which in turn supported women to train in job skills and return to work.

ICO Foundation’s Realizando Sueños’ Ancianas’ Nutrition Project in Guatemala has been providing hot, fresh meals once a week to 17 of the village of San Antonio Palopo’s elderly for the past 5 years. Glasswaters funding this year provides for a program expansion that includes the addition of 5 new beneficiaries, meals two times per week, home visits, and medicines for those that cannot leave their homes.

This was the third year of funding for VIDEA’s youth education partnership with Women for Change (WfC) in Zambia. WfC works with rural communities to alleviate poverty and provide education and work opportunities. We also sponsor the education of Gift as he continues at medical school and Bertha who is studying special education.

CENTRE MEDICINE OBLATE
CMO supports the Shechen health clinic in Boudha, Kathmandu where rural and impoverished people can access emergency first aid and health care. The clinic provided integral medical support and outreach to earthquake victims.
CHILD HAVEN INTERNATIONAL
The Women’s Foundation, Nepal, ran a soup kitchen and provided emergency shelter and food to 17,000 families in some of the hardest hit earthquake areas in Nepal. WFN also assisted displaced women, newborns and their siblings. Under Child Haven, Glasswaters contributed to the relief work and to WFN’s daycare and pre-school education program.

A grant was provided to the Chitungwiza Rokpa Initiative in Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe to allow the construction of the project’s education rotunda to be completed and to fund an after-school education program that provides a safe place for students to meet and do homework while their parents and caregivers are away at work.

Support this year went to VIDEA’s youth education partnership with Women for Change (WfC) in Zambia and continued sponsorship of Gift Zimba’s medical education. WfC works with rural communities to alleviate poverty and provide rural youth with school and work opportunities.
A grant also went to VIDEA’s work in Uganda with Environmental Women in Action for Development to install a solar power system in their orphan residences and school compound. The project provides reliable lighting for the EWA nursery and school, and annual power cost savings that translate into improved nutrition, education and other supplies for the children.

2013 was the beginning of a sponsorship for the medical education of a diligent and committed young man from rural Zambia. His family and community are important to him and will be well served by his field of study.
